My passion for improving lives has been a constant throughout my life. I studied political science and spent a decade in international development, focusing on microfinance and poverty reduction. I have been an active volunteer in many different organisations for decades. However, in 2013, my life changed when my husband was diagnosed with brain cancer. Coping with the aftermath of his treatments—depression, frustration, and communication challenges—led me to explore wellbeing science. This interest grew, and I pursued a Master’s in Applied Positive Psychology.
Currently, I work with the Centre for Policy Development's wellbeing government team, driving initiatives to improve government decision-making for the wellbeing of individuals, communities, and the environment. Transitioning from wellbeing science to policy, I noticed a lack of collaboration within the wellbeing system, with the macro-level economy and government playing a crucial role in enabling an environment for wellbeing at all levels to grow. The global movement to measure wellbeing as a marker of progress has gained momentum, yet better integration across systems is needed. Policymakers must grasp the "why" behind wellbeing, while wellbeing scientists should also contribute by translating research into actionable policy.
In the face of rising global crises—conflict, inequality, climate change, and mental health struggles—people are increasingly anxious and disconnected. We need to instil hope and a pathway to action. Positive signs include global initiatives like the OECD Better Life, the UN SDGs, the Wellbeing Economy movement, and new frameworks like the Declaration and Pact for Future Generations.
Currently, I am a co-convenor of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance Australia Hub and help lead the planning for the Building Wellbeing Policy into Action conference, fostering collaboration, learning, discussions and action. My strengths in connecting and networking have led me to focus on connecting people, researchers, and advocates in the wellbeing ecosystem to push for the systemic shift needed to truly enhance wellbeing for both people and the planet. I am grateful to work alongside many inspiring individuals, all committed to creating a world that prioritises wellbeing for all.
